Project Mumbai is citizen-led and is built on the premise of getting citizens to value the 100 meters they live, work and play in, create a sense of ownership and contribute to a meaningful urban environment.
In the process, it has impacted over 1.6 crore lives--thats about 9 thousand people every day. In the six years since it was founded.
Shishir-led Project Mumbai has transformed lives--be it vaccination of the elderly bedridden, setting up of libraries in municipal gardens and prisons, mental health and wellness of thousands of adolescents, mapping hundreds of roads and rediscovering the cultural history of this city, creating a wave of sustainable living through the Mumbai Plastic and e-waste Recyclothon among lakhs of citizens or making Mumbai accessible and friendly for the differently abled and elderly. This list is endless.
Shishir believes in the goodness of people. There is a good bone in every citizen and he / she gives some time of his day for the city. Kuchh Pal Apney Sheher Ke Liye has been the philosophy with Mumbai Ke Liye Kuchh Bhi Karega as the tagline.
Through volunteerism, Project Mumbai wants to make Mumbai the Kindness Capital of India and create a successful model of public private people partnership which can help recreate the magic in other cities.
Project Mumbai has been recognised globally, be it the United Nations SDG Award, or the Global Recyclers, or the Best start Up and the list, all of 18 awards, is fascinating. Shishir himself has been the recipient of several awards, including the iVolunteer Hero of the Year, Social Impact person of the year just to name a few.
A few days from now, Shishir led Project Mumbai will be launching HAMARA STATION HAMARI SHAAN--India's largest citizen led public art initiative to beautify 29 railway stations of Mumbai. In October.
Shishir is a lawyer by education (the professional five years law course) and a journalist in his earlier avataar--having worked with NDTV, CNN.com and Indian Express among other institutions, a profession which he quit in 2009. Since then, he has been passionate about social transformation through initiatives of scale.
